2014 Winter U7 Rules of Play - Print Page

FIFA rules with AYSO amendments prevail, with the following exceptions:

PLAYING TIME:

Four 10 minute quarters. One-minute break between 1st. & 3rd. quarters. Five-minute halftime break. NO TEAM REFRESHMENTS AT THE ONE-MINUTE QUARTER BREAKS PLEASE! The half time break will be five (5) minutes. Games are to end on time. If the game is started late, the quarters must be shortened to end the game on time.

1. Teams play five (5) on the field at one time. There are NO GOALKEEPERS. If either team is short players, the coaches can agree to do the following only:
(a) Play uneven;
(b) Move players from one team to the other, making both even.

Coaches cannot and should not play even with smaller teams. It is unfair to have additional players sitting out quarters on one team because the other does not have a minimum of 5 players. Other registered AYSO U7 players from another team may also be used. (NO RINGERS PLEASE!).

2. A number three (3) ball is used in all games.

3. Goal kicks or throws can NOT pass the center line without first-touching the floor.
No slide tackling is allowed. There is no offside. There are no penalty kicks.

In the Friends lower gym, the ball may be played against the side wall without a door. If the ball goes in any other area, it is out of bounds and a throw-in will be awarded to the team who did not kick it out. If the ball hits the ceiling or any structure it is out of bounds. Throw-ins for out of bounds are taken in an overhand motion [as in the outdoor game]. The ball must touch the floor at a reasonable distance from the thrower.

A goal cannot be scored directly by a throw in. All free kicks are indirect.

5. All players must wear shin guards, which must be completely covered by socks. Jewelry or other hard objects are not allowed.

6. Prior to the game, the coaches will introduce themselves to each other and the referee. The teams will line up at the halfway line, and the referee will check for proper equipment.

7. After the game, the players will meet at the halfway line and shake hands.

8. All players must play at least half of the game and preferably 3 quarters.

9. Substitutions are permitted only at the quarter breaks (except for injury). Running substitutions is strictly forbidden.

10. Coaches must say on the touch line and completely off the field. No coach, parent, or spectator is allowed to be behind the goal line. NO PARENTS OTHER THAN DESIGNATED COACHES ARE PERMITTED TO COACH. Parents should cheer for their team, but should not address the coaches, referee, or players during the game. NO ONE BUT THE PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS IS ALLOWED TO BE ON THE FIELD UNLESS SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED BY THE REFEREE.

11. NO CRITICISM OF THE REFEREES IS ACCEPTABLE. Criticism of the referees by either coaches or spectators may cause sanctions to be meted out, as provided by the FIFA Laws. All referees are parent volunteers. If you feel refereeing is lacking, please volunteer to become a referee.

12. No player will play with blood on themselves or their uniform. All cuts must be adequately covered.
