2014 Winter U10 Rules of Play - Print Page

FIFA rules with AYSO amendments prevail, with the following exceptions:

PLAYING TIME:

Four 11 minute quarters. One-minute break between 1st. & 3rd. quarters. Five-minute halftime break.

  1. Teams play 5-6 on the field (a goalie and 4-5 other players). If either team is short players, coaches may do the following: a) Each team play with fewer - but equal - number of players, b) Move players from one team to the other to make both teams even, or c) Use other registered AYSO U10 players from another team (NO RINGERS PLEASE!).

  2. PENALTY AREA: In front of each goal will be an area extending approximately
18-inches on either side of the goal and 8 feet in front of the goal. No
player from either team, except the goalkeeper defending the goal, may enter
this area. If the defending team violates this rule an indirect free kick will
be awarded to the attacking team half way between the goalie box and the center
line. If the attacking team violates this rule an indirect free kick will be
awarded to the defending team to be taken from anywhere inside the goalie box.

  3. All players must wear shinguards. NO exceptions. Jewelry and other hard objects are not allowed.

  4. Goal kicks or throws can NOT pass the center line without first-touching the floor.

  5. No slide tackling is allowed. There is no offside. There are no penalty kicks. The goalie may pick up the ball if it is played back by a teammate.

  6. In the Packer upper gym, the ball may be played against the end walls. If the ball goes over either side line it is out of bounds and a throw-in will be awarded to the team who did not kick it out. If the ball gets stuck behind a goal or hits the ceiling or any structure it is out of bounds. Throw-ins for out of bounds are taken in an overhand motion [as in the outdoor game]. The ball must touch the floor at a reasonable distance from the thrower.

  7. A goal cannot be scored directly by a throw in. All free kicks are indirect.

  8. Substitutions are made only at quarter breaks and half-time breaks except for injury. No refreshments please. No food or drink is allowed in the gym!

  9. All players are to play at least one-half of the game with rotation of goalie. A player may not be a goalie for more than one-half of the game.

  10. Only players and officials are to be on the floor during the game, unless specifically requested to do so by the referee.

  11. Prior to the game, both coaches will introduce themselves to each other and to the referee. In the event an AYSO referee is not available, a parent volunteer(s) may officiate.

  12. When the game is completed, both teams, including coaches, will meet at the half-line mark and shake hands.

  13. No criticism of referees is acceptable. Criticism of the referees by either coaches, parents or spectators will cause penalties to be called against offenders as provided for in FIFA rules. (Should you feel refereeing is lacking, please feel free to volunteer for the next season).

  14. No blood is allowed on any player or official or on their uniforms.

  15. A number 4 ball is used.
