The Benefits of Small-Sided Soccer
Prev | Next
This week's Hey Coach Quick Tip is to utilize the power of small-sided (or short-sided) games. AYSO recommends that all children under the age of 12 play small-sided soccer - soccer with less than 11 players per team - during their regular season games. Small-sided soccer is also a great way to train older players. If you coach U-14 and up, consider incorporating small-sided scrimmages into your practices.
The video above shows the U.S. Women's National team playing a small-sided game during practice in Glagsow, Scotland, for the 2012 Olympics. Playing small-sided is a great way to get players to improve their touch on the ball, learn to communicate and get valuable shots on goal.
