Earrings, watches, bracelets, hair clips, hair beads, and other hard objects must be removed before games to prevent injury.

Hi everyone,
I trust you and your kids are excited about the start of the season. Following are some additional words of advice about how to keep everything safe and fun on the fields.
1) Each 8am game must have parents from both teams on the field no later than 7:30am to retrieve the goals (from the storage facility adjacent to the Parks Office/Police HQ at the south end of the field) and to set up the goals. If the first game of the day starts late, that first game must be cut short. When your game is over, please leave the field as quickly as possible, out of courtesy for the next team or group. Last AYSO game of the day on each field...Parents from each team must take down their goals and return them to the field house, unless instructed otherwise by an AYSO official. All games must end on time (we have more than 2,400 kids on the field, which requires courtesy by all).
2) Always bring a copy of the spring permits in case other organizations attempt to use our fields during the time periods permitted to AYSO (see fields icon on BrooklynAYSO.org to download and print your permits). Call the parks police 718 437 1350 if the other other group fails to leave the field.
3) Rainout Policy: The region makes efforts to play games as scheduled even when it is raining. If games are canceled, this information will be posted at www.brooklynayso.org and also at the rainout hotline (718-233-3733) by 7am. Unless you hear otherwise from your child's coach or a team parent, or you find the rainout notice posted in this space or at the rainout hotline, you can assume games are on. And if the games are rained out during the day... parents please take down your goals!
4) Why Soccer Goals must be secured: Here's an important video from CBS News on the hazards of soccer goals.
5) Dogs, bikes and beach/lawn chairs with legs are not allowed on the artificial turf fields: Pls. be advised that owners may be fined by the Parks Enforcement Police!
6) All players must wear shin guards. These are MANDATORY! Sneakers are OK, but most players prefer to wear cleats. No jewelry of any kind, including any type of earrings, bracelets, necklaces, or watches, as well as hard hair ornaments (beads, clips, etc).
7) Thieves wander among us on the field sidelines: Keep your bags, jackets, backpacks etc in your sight at all times. Call 911 immediately if you see something, or you have a problem. There is no lost and found.
8) Always bring water for your child.
9) If you have questions that your coach cannot answer, ask your division coordinator (Contact info under contact icon on BrooklynAYSO.org.)
10) Parents and coaches, please remember that soccer games are to be fun for your kids, and we hope that you enjoy these as well. Set the example. Demonstrate good sportsmanship and always respect the call of the ref.
When does the spring season start?

What time are games?
Games will be played on a rotating basis, from 8am - 4pm, so there is no fixed game time for any team. Specific team schedules will be released with team rosters on April 7.
Where are Brooklyn AYSO games played?
All Brooklyn AYSO spring games for U6-U19G will be played at the Parade Ground, at the southeast corner of Prospect Park. U19C games will be played at Wingate Park
When and where are practices?
The time and location of team practices is up to individual coaches and teams.
U6 teams do not hold practices outside of game days; instead they have 30 minutes of practice/training, followed by 30 minutes of game play, on game days.
What division does my child belong in?
Children are automatically placed in their correct age division according to birth date. Division age cut-offs can be found at: http://www.brooklynayso.org/players.php#playersAges. Children who have not turned 5-years-old by January 31st of this year are not yet old enough to play.
What equipment does my child need?
AYSO provides a uniform of shirt, shorts, and socks. Parents need to outfit their children with shin guards, athletic shoes, and appropriate-size ball (size 3 for U6 and U8 players, size 4 for U10 and U12 players, size 5 for U14-U19 players).
Welcome parents and players! Please read on for FAQ's about the upcoming season.

FIELD set up and GOALS
All fields start at 8:00am and end at 4:00pm. Parents of first game of the day (not coaches) should get the equipment between 7:00 and 7:30 and set up the goals to start at 8:00. Fields that require take down must be done at 4:00.
All games must start and end on time. If your game starts late it still must end on time. No exceptions. Sand bags must be placed on the bottom flat connecting bar at the back of the goal, perpendicular to the bottom bar, not straddling it. Too many times bags are put on the net or the front of the bar. Make sure to secure the goal properly.
U6 has four fields (4C, D, E, and F). All four fields have 8 games starting at 8:00 and ending 4:00. All games start on the hour. Parents pick up and assemble goals for first game and take them down and return to field house after last game. The goals be secured with sand bags.
argin-top: 0.1pt; font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: 12px;">
U8 has 4 fields between coed and girls on Fields 4 and 11. All fields will go from 8:00 to 4:00. All games start on the hour. Parents pick up and assemble goals for first game and take them down and return to field house after last game. The goals will be secured with sand bags.
U10 has 3 fields between coed and girls. Coed has 10B. Girls has field 10A. Coed and girls share field 4A. All games are between 8:00-4:00. All games start on the hour. On fields 10A and 10B, the goals will be pre-assembled and at thefield. Sand bags are at the field in the container located by the fence between field 9 & 10. Antonio will almost always use the goals on Field 10 for the Patriots travel games, so there will be no take down. On field 4, parents pick up and assemble goals for first game and take them down and return to field house after last game. The goals are secured with sand bags. One bag at the rear of each bottom support.
U1 - Girls will have 5 games 1 hour long from 8:00 to 1:00 on field 11. Will use the free standing Parks Department full size goals. Just move into place. No sand bags needed.
U12 - Coed will have 3 games an hour long on Field 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 and 2 games an hour long on field 8. Will use the free standing Parks Department full size goals. Just move into place. No sand bags needed.
U14 - Coed will have 4 games an hour long on Field 9 from 12:00 to 4:00.
U14 - Girls have 4 games 1 hour long on field 8. No field set up required
U19 - Coed will have 4 games one hour and 15 minutes long, starting at 1:00 at Wingate Park. Need to bring and attach nets.
The coach's job is to get the team ready to play. It is dangerous for the coach to assemble the goals when the team is around him or her. He or she should not be near goals assembly. The coach must delegate this job to a parent to be in charge of getting parents to do this. Parents should also check the field for dangerous objects. The coach and referee must make sure that the goals are secured properly before play is started. A goal falling on a child can cause serious injury or death. Coaches that have the last game of the day should know that their teams have to take down the goals if so indicated above. All too many times goals are left at the field. Lastly, dogs, bicycles and strollers are not allowed on the field. If parents and players bike to the field, bikes should be locked up OUTSIDE the field. It is dangerous to have hard objects next to the field.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Players should wear shin guards and bring a bottle of water and a soccer ball. All players must wear shin guards! They will not be allowed to play without them. Uniform socks must be worn over shin guards. Players should also wear their uniform jerseys and shorts. AYSO rules: players may not play with blood on their uniforms. If the weather is chilly, kids may wear sweatpants, long johns, long-sleeved t-shirts, etc UNDER - not over - their uniforms.
Earrings, watches, bracelets, hair clips, hair beads, and other hard objects must be removed before games to prevent injury. Soccer cleats are recommended but not required.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
BrooklynAYSO.org will feature up-to-the-minute news regarding rain cancellations. There is also a rain cancellation hotline: (718) 233-3733.
If an electrical storm comes up during play, please clear the fields immediately. Goals must be taken down at that time.

AYSO New Player Registration
Early bird registration through June 16, Late Registration fees thereafter
The AYSO Safe Haven and Safety Director programs have been promoting since 2009 the recommendations provided by the U.S. Center for Disease Control's (CDC) Heads Up program for concussion awareness and safety. Since then, 35 states plus the District of Columbia have passed concussion legislation, most of which came onto the books within the last year. Other states have similar laws pending.
In response to increasing concerns about the potential risks associated with concussions and to these new state laws, the AYSO National Board of Directors launched a Concussion Task Force to develop recommendations for AYSO Regions and families. The NBOD has approved its recommendations.
Players are assigned to teams by the Division Coordinators prior to the start of the season. At that time, as much information as is available on player skills is used to provide evenly balanced teams for the season.
Players may not request to be placed on a particular team. Except for the following, AYSO Region 473 will not guarantee placement:
Coaches will be placed on the same team as their children unless otherwise requested;
Siblings within the same Division may be placed on the same team;
Placement for good cause shown
Although these guidelines may surprise many parents, especially in the older divisions, where the pattern of being on the same team with the same coach season after season has been established for some time, they are not new. The reality is that honoring these requests inevitably leads to imbalance within the divisions, which makes the playing experience a negative one for all involved. Please understand that the division coordinators are doing their best to ensure balanced teams and a positive experience for everyone.
If you have registration questions, contact the volunteers at support@brooklynayso.org. (just send them a note and they will respond directly)
Parents can update their 'comments' field (where special team request information goes) by logging into AYSO-Online and clicking on 'family profile' and then 'edit' next to their child's name (which appears if they're registered).

Registration on line is preferred. However, winter registration forms are available (for those without internet access only) at:
